Aaron Donald

Biography

Born on May 23, 1991, Aaron Charles Donald[1] is an NFL defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams (NFL). He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft after a successful college football career at Pittsburgh, where he was named to the All-American team. He is widely considered to be one of the best defensive players of all time, having been named to the Pro Bowl in each of his eight seasons and earning seven first-team All-Pro nods. It’s worth noting that Donald also contributed to the LVI Super Bowl champions. Donald, the Rams’ longest-tenured player, is one of only two players left from when the franchise was based in St. Louis and then relocated to Los Angeles (the other being Rob Havenstein).

Early Life

Donald is a Pittsburgh native and one of three kids raised by his working-class parents in the Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar area of the city. His dad got him into working out because he wanted to give his son more routine. In retrospect, Donald would say that he was “lazy as a kid.” By the time he was 12, he and his dad were getting up at 4:30 every morning to train for nearly two hours in the basement gym that his dad had built. Donald played high school football for Ron Graham at Penn Hills High. As a senior, he recorded 63 tackles, 15 for a loss, and 11 sacks, earning him first-team All-State honors in Class AAAA. Donald also played offensive guard for the first team. According to Rivals.com, he is the 37th-best defensive tackle in the country and is a three-star prospect. Despite scholarship offers from Toledo, Akron, and Rutgers, he opted to play in his hometown of Pittsburgh.

Career Life

After running a 4.68-second 40-yard sprint at the NFL Combine, Donald established a new mark for defensive tackles. Tank Johnson, who ran a 4.69 in 2004, was the previous record holder. After that, people began comparing him to John Randle. The St. Louis Rams selected Donald with the thirteenth overall choice in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. When the Rams inked Donald to a four-year, $10.13 million rookie contract on June 16, 2014, it was a guaranteed deal. A $5.69M signing bonus and a $5M option for a fifth year were also part of the deal.

Donald made his NFL regular season debut on September 7, 2014, in a 34-6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The following week, in a 19-17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he had three tackles and recorded his first NFL sack. A career starter for the first time on October 13, 2014, he recorded four solo tackles against the San Francisco 49ers. Donald was one of five rookies chosen for the 2015 Pro Bowl after he racked up 47 tackles, nine sacks, and two forced fumbles. Donald was honored as the league’s rookie defensive player of the year and was selected to the league’s All-Rookie Team.

Beginning with the 2015 season, Donald was the starting defensive tackle. He recorded nine tackles and two sacks in the season opener, a 34-31 overtime victory over the Seattle Seahawks. For the first time in his NFL career, his performance earned him the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award. Donald had a career-high five tackles and three sacks in Week 14’s matchup against the Detroit Lions on December 13, 2015. In 2015, his performance against the Lions won him his second NFC Defensive Player of the Week title. Donald started every game and finished the year with 69 tackles, 11 sacks, a pass defense, and a fumble recovery in 16 appearances. He became the first player in his NFL career to be named the First Team All-Pro. For the second year in a row, he made it to the Pro Bowl. In addition, his fellow NFL players selected him as the league’s fourteenth-best player in 2016.

Jalen Ramsey

Biography

American football cornerback Jalen Lattrel Ramsey (born October 24, 1994) plays for the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL (NFL). He attended Florida State University and was selected fifth overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2016 NFL Draft for his talents on the gridiron. After joining the Jaguars, Ramsey rapidly established himself as one of the league’s best cornerbacks, earning two trips to the Pro Bowl and an All-Pro nod in 2017. He also played a key role in the team’s return to the playoffs after a 10-year absence. Midway through the 2019 season, he was moved to the Los Angeles Rams after a dispute and standoff with the Jaguars’ management office. After negotiating a new contract with the Rams in 2020, he became the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.

Early Life

On October 24, 1994, in Smyrna, Tennessee, Ramsey was born to Lamont Ramsey (an EMT and Jalen’s training instructor) and Margie Ramsey. Jalen’s older brother Jamal played football, basketball, and track at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tennessee, and was a quarterback at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where their father had also played college football. Jalen honed his football abilities by competing with bigger boys at a nearby park. He has raised a Miami Hurricanes fan in a household full of Florida Gators supporters.

Career Life

NFL scouts and analysts unanimously agreed that Ramsey should be selected in the first round of the draught after graduating from Florida State. NFL media pundits Daniel Jeremiah, Charles Davis, and Mike Mayock all projected him as a top-ten choice. He was invited to the NFL combine, where he performed exceptionally well in the broad jump and vertical jump to tie for first place.

Together with Roberto Aguayo, Lamarcus Brutus, Terrance Smith, and 20 prospects, he attended Florida State’s pro day on March 29, 2016. General managers Doug Whaley (Bills), Kevin Colbert (Steelers), Jason Licht (Buccaneers), Jon Robinson (Titans), and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin were just some of the notable names among the representatives and scouts from the other 30 NFL teams (the Cincinnati Bengals choose not to attend). Ramsey relied only on his combined stats and avoided any off-field work by opting to participate in positional drills. NFLDraftScout.com ranked him as the best free safety prospect, Sports Illustrated listed him as the top defensive back prospect, and NFL expert Mike Mayock ranked him as the top cornerback prospect.
