According To Study, Oregon Had The Second Highest Inward Migration In 2022
Inward Migration: In 2022, a large number of people abandoned their old lives, packed their belongings, and relocated to Oregon in search of new beginnings. According to recent research, Oregon was the second most popular state to relocate to in the previous year.
Oregon Had The Second Highest Inward Migration In 2022
On Monday, United Van Lines, a moving company, released the findings of its 46th Annual National Movers Study. The data provided by the company’s customers enabled the company to predict which states in the United States will be the most popular places to relocate to in 2022.
Oregon was the second most popular state to migrate to last year, with 67% of people moving there from another state, according to the data. It was ranked eighth in the 2021 version of the survey, but it has now risen all the way to first place.
The Beaver State was ranked between Vermont, which was ranked first, and Rhode Island, which was ranked third. Alabama, like South Carolina and Delaware, experienced a significant influx of new residents in the previous year.
According to United Van Lines, four of the top ten states, including Oregon, are among the least densely populated in the country, with fewer than 100 people living in each square mile on average. Oregon is included in this statistic.
Furthermore, the organisation identified the metropolitan areas with the highest percentage of incoming moves in 2022. The Eugene-Springfield area ranked ninth, with 69% of its residents coming from elsewhere, while the Portland-Vancouver area ranked seventeenth, with 65% of its residents coming from elsewhere.
According to Michael Stoll, an economist and professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, the most common reasons people migrate are retirement, a desire to be closer to family, and a change in lifestyle.
“The United Van Lines study includes data that Americans are now moving from larger to smaller cities, mostly in the South and some in the West, but there has also been an increase in migration to the Northeast, which has not been typical,” Stoll said in the release. “These migrations are taking place in areas of the country that are not normally affected by this trend.” Younger millennials are also flocking to cities with thriving economies, such as Washington, D.C., and Portland, Oregon (Portland).
Although young millennials may be more likely to relocate to “metropolitan economies,” a United Van Lines poll found that Baby Boomers and Generation X-ers relocated more frequently than any other age group. According to the firm’s data, customers aged 55 and up completed more than 55 percent of United Van Lines’ interstate transfers in 2018.
The moving firm found that California, New York, and Michigan were among the states with the highest number of moves that went out of the country.
