Early Life

The 17th of August, 1985, was the day Alex Honnold was born in Sacramento, California. His mom and dad were both teachers at a local university. His paternal grandfather was from Germany, and his maternal grandmother was Polish. He started attending to the climbing gym at the ripe old age of five, and by the time he was ten, he was visiting there multiple times a week, showing his dedication to the sport. As a young man, he participated in and frequently won national rock climbing competitions. After graduating from Mira Loma High in 2003, he continued his education at the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in civil engineering. He struggled through his first year of college. He didn’t make many friends because he didn’t live in the dorms but rented an apartment from a relative. Career Life Of Alex Honnold

Although he had been participating in climbing contests for the majority of his life, he didn’t become widely known within the climbing community until around 2007. In that year, he was the only person until climber Peter Croft in 1987 to free solo both Astroman and Rostrum in Yosemite Valley on the same day. This success catapulted him to greater prominence among climbers. Due to the extreme difficulty of the climb and the timing of the news on April 1st, many people were skeptical when he reported free soloing a 1,200-foot-tall finger crack that splits Zion’s Moonlight Buttress the following year. Honnold later in 2008 free soloed the 2,000-foot-tall Regular Northwest Face of Half Dome in Yosemite, and in 2012 he set a new record for the fastest climb, clocking in at 1 hour and 22 minutes.
