Altered Carbon Season 3: Is It Going to Be Renewed or Cancelled?

Based on a novel by Richard K. Morgan, Netflix’s ambitious cyberpunk thriller Altered Carbon required years of hard work to make become reality. Altered Carbon premiered on Netflix in February 2018 with a 10-episode first season, allowing the show’s creators to go all out with their sci-fi crazy.

It was only a matter of time before Altered Carbon, set in an alternate reality where humans have found a method to digitally modify their consciousness, became a hit with viewers, and the streaming service promptly renewed the show for a second season. Fans have speculated about a third season of Altered Carbon since the Netflix release of season 2 in February 2020.

Altered Carbon’s third season has yet to be confirmed. Many questions remain unsolved after the season 2 finale, which could be addressed in a third chapter in the Altered Carbon universe where dead things don’t stay dead at all. Who will play key characters in a potential third season, given that Season 2 ended with some of the show’s most famous characters showing no mercy (much like the characters in HBO’s fantasy drama Game of Thrones regularly killing off major persons with little remorse)? Better still, are the major characters’ stacks truly gone, or will they reappear if minimal sleeve damage is sustained, as is customary in television?

Until Netflix releases a new batch of episodes, so many questions will remain unanswered. As of right now, this is all we know about what an Altered Carbon season 3 may look and feel like.

When will Season 3 of Altered Carbon be released?

Netflix has yet to announce a release date for the third season of Altered Carbon. However, a jigsaw puzzle can be put together with the information that is now available.

Altered Carbon’s first season premiered on Netflix on February 2, 2018. The second season premiered on TV on February 27, 2020. There will be an Altered Carbon: Resleeved anime sequel out on March 19, 2020. Due to Netflix’s infamous secrecy, the only data points available to make educated projections regarding the release date of any of its assets are based on how much it cost to make the show and how many people watched it.

To get a second season of Altered Carbon renewed, Netflix will need to see a large increase in viewers in season two’s viewership. Although the anime spin-off shows the company’s commitment to the original IP, Altered Carbon’s father may have a better chance of winning.

Kota Factory Season 3 Renewed at Netflix: Confirmed by Kota Factory Director Raghav Subbu! (Latest Update)

Regardless, Netflix’s quiet should not be taken as a sign of impending doom. Fans should wait until July to start writing obituaries because the firm didn’t order season 2 until five months after season 1 aired.

Season 3 of Altered Carbon will not be accessible on Netflix until early 2022, assuming the show is renewed. You may not like the idea of waiting two years to see the next season of Altered Carbon, but the wait will be worth it. For now, you can revisit the second chapter, go back to the beginning, or check out the alternate reality.

Who is in the cast of Altered Carbon Season 3?

For Altered Carbon season 3, there have been no announcements or casting selections made, therefore it is impossible to speculate about who might be cast in the upcoming season. However, it is indicated in the series that the humanoid AI Edgar Poe (played by Chris Conner) had backed up a duplicate of O.G. Kovacs (Byron Mann) before the destruction of the stack. In an interview with IGN, showrunner Alison Schapker confirmed this.

As a group, we all loved the finale of Season 1 when Kovacs gave [Elias Ryker’s] sleeve back to Ortega and then you see these boots stepping out of the elevator and you’re like, ‘I assume Kovacs is returning, but in what sleeve?” Schapker claims the following. Keeping that commitment to the viewers was a top priority for us in season two.

While Poe has been battling degeneration throughout the season, we enjoyed the concept of him sacrificing himself in a moment of nobility to imitate Kovacs’ heroic act. In other words, there’s his stack and Takeshi Kovacs’ awareness, and that’s what we’re promising the audience. But we’ll have to wait and see what she’s got up her sleeve.

Anthony Mackie, who played Kovacs in Season 2, is expected to return for Season 3 of Altered Carbon, which is hugely anticipated. Since Joel Kinnaman replaced Mackie in the first season, it’s unlikely that he’ll be back if the authors continue to resleeve each season. However, Mackie may appear in flashbacks. “I’m hoping to be able to bring Kovacs back next season,” the actor said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m not sure I’m ready to call it a day on this series yet.”

Legacies Season 5: Confirmed Release Date, Did the Show Finally Get Renewed? (Latest Update)

“Kovacs Prime” Will Yun Lee, Chris Conner, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Simone Missick, and Dina Shihabi are all likely to return as the other Takeshi Kovacs in season 3. Reileen Kawahara’s sister, Reileen Lachman, may or may not return. Possibly a new Takeshi Kovacs will be introduced in Season 3 of Altered Carbon.

Zazie Beetz, the Joker, and Deadpool 2 actress have recently been rumored to be the latest Takeshi Kovacs sleeve, according to the deepest corners of the internet. According to an interview with series creator Laeta Kalogridis, “The idea that this type of technology creates interesting intersections between the concept of your physical self and the concept of the inner or spiritual self, as well as, certainly the idea of reassigning your gender is made a whole lot easier when you don’t have to perform surgery.”

If nothing else, things seem to be getting more interesting. Even though you were never born, you nevertheless inhabit a body that was not yours at birth. As for the possibility of re-creating one’s physical body, I believe we’ve only begun to scratch the surface of what’s possible.”

Altered Carbon fans should wait for official confirmation from a respectable news site before calling Beetz a confirmed cast member of season 3.

What is the plot of Season 3 of Altered Carbon?

For now, you and Schapker are on the same page when it comes to the potential Altered Carbon season 3 storyline. We’re waiting for Netflix’s official approval,” said Schapker in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in early March 2020. Sadly, a pickup truck is not among our available transportation options. We’re only here for a short while. Please bring back Season 3! However, I’m not sure how much information I can share about my thoughts. Nevertheless, we’re ready!

In Altered Carbon season 2, of course, there are huge unanswered mysteries, the most important of which is the fate of Kovacs and his sister Reileen. Everyone wants to see Anthony Mackie again, regardless of the character he’s portraying, and that’s not impossible if the show’s producers decide to bring him back. There may be other sleeves that look like Mackie, thus his persona may be written into a script. In the meantime, there are many uncertainties and rumors, but one thing we know for sure: what’s dead does not necessarily stay that way—as long as the stack is OK.
