Fans of “Archer” can expect another trip into the danger zone shortly. For the 13th season of Adam Reed’s FX animated spy comedy “Archer,” Deadline reports. Sarcastic and unprofessional Sterling Archer, the world’s greatest secret agent, is the focus of the series. Archer is a member of the International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS), which is headed by his sarcastic mother Malory. Archer and his hapless team of spies travel the world on shady espionage missions that almost always go wrong, leading to hilarious mishaps.
Since its debut in 2009, “Archer” has become a fan favorite among television viewers and has been included in lists of the greatest cartoons ever made by TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly. Because of its popularity, Reed’s decision to end “Archer” after Season 10 shocked many fans in 2016. (via TV Line). According to Variety, “Archer” Season 13 will feature more sexual innuendos and one-liners thanks to an increase in viewership from Season 10 to Season 11.
Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming 13th season of “Archer.”
Is There a Premiere Date for Archer Season 13?
Season 13 of “Archer” has yet to be announced, so fans can only hope that it won’t be too long in the making. An eight-episode run of Season 13 was previously reported by Deadline to premiere on FXX sometime in 2022, according to that same report. That’s all we have from the article, but judging from the show’s previous seasons, we can estimate when Season 13 of “Archer” will debut.
Because new episodes of “Archer” usually air about a year after the previous season concludes, we can assume that Season 13 will premiere sometime between September and November of 2022 when Season 12 just ended. Since Season 11 premiered more than a year after Season 10 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been a few notable exceptions to this release schedule. Season 13 of “Archer” could return sooner rather than later if a pandemic doesn’t get in the way of filming, which is what we’re hoping for.
What Characters Will Likely Return in Archer Season 13?
Almost everyone from “Archer’s” gang will be back for Season 13 in some capacity, as they have in each of the previous seasons. In addition to Archer (H. Jon Benjamin), Lana (Aisha Taylor), Cyril (Chris Parnell), Cheryl (Judy Greer), and openly gay agent Ray (Ray Liotta) are all expected to appear in the series (Adam Reed). Lucky Yates, the actor who plays the mad scientist Dr. Krieger, and Amber Nash, the actress who plays the hilarious Pam, are also expected to return for Season 13.
Malory Archer, who has been voiced by Jessica Walter since Season 1, will not be returning in Season 13. Fans were devastated to learn of her untimely death in March 2021, but thanks to FX, her voice could be heard in Season 12 of the show. It was only fitting that the Season 12 finale ended with Walter’s character Malory, who is last seen relaxing on a beach with her husband Ron (played by Walter’s real-life husband Ron Leibman).
“Archer” is known for its stellar guest voice actors, so fans can expect plenty of appearances from them as well as the show’s core cast this season.
What could the story of Archer Season 13 be about?
In Season 13 of “Archer,” it’s impossible to predict what the show will bring because the entire series is unpredictable. To become a private investigator, Archer had to first go from being the top-secret agent in the world to dealing drugs. Then, in a flashback that spans three seasons, we see Archer’s lucid dreams, which take us from a 1920s Los Angeles crime scene to a spaceship bound for another galaxy. We know what to expect from the next season of “Archer,” even though nothing is certain in the world of the show.
It’s safe to say that “Archer” is done with the out-of-this-world storylines after Seasons 11 and 12, which return the show to its spy comedy roots that first drew in fans. Archer and the gang were last seen in Season 12 competing for espionage contracts to restore ISIS to its former glory with the newest spy agency, the International Intelligence Agency (IIA). Later in the season, in the final episode, we learn that IIA has purchased ISIS and that Malory has handed over the leadership of ISIS to Archer.
ISIS reestablishment under Archer’s leadership is our best guess, as it’s difficult to imagine Archer and his coworkers working for IIA on their own accord. Fans will have to wait until the 13th season of “Archer,” which premieres in 2022, to see what the gang gets up to next.
