What is the plot of The Blacklist?
Jon Bokenkamp’s The Blacklist premiered on NBC in 2013. With a young FBI profiler named Elizabeth “Liz” Keen, the series began with a mysterious criminal named Raymond “Red” Reddington who turns himself in and insists on speaking only to Liz Keen after years of evading capture. Because of “the Blacklist,” a database of the world’s most heinous criminals, Liz and Reddington formed an unlikely alliance.
In the eight seasons of the show, Liz and Reddington have dealt with a wide range of criminal activities, as well as a greater investigation into the mysterious origin of their relationship.
If you haven’t seen season 8 of The Blacklist, we’re about to give you a spoiler warning (may be best to go catch up as soon as possible because it has some series-changing events).
The death of a character is foreshadowed early on in the season 8 finale. A dying Reddington reveals to Liz that he wants her to kill him so that she can take over his criminal empire. As if that weren’t enough, Liz’s mother leaves him with a note explaining who Red is and how she can only get her hands on it after she kills him. However, when the time comes for Liz to shoot Red, she is unable to do so, which he understands. Liz was shot in the back by a rival associate who had figured out Red’s plan. Her final breath is held by Red.
Who is in The Blacklist cast?
Red and Liz, played by James Spader and Megan Boone, have had a shaky relationship throughout the entire run of The Blacklist. However, following season 8, that partnership has come to an end, with only Spader remaining on the show.
Diego Klattenhoff as Donald Ressler, Harry Lenix as Harold Cooper, Hisham Tawfiq as Dembe Zuma, Amir Arison as Aram Mojtabai, and Laura Sohn as Alina Park have all worked with Red in the past.
When season 8 came to an end, creator Jon Bokenkamp stepped down as executive producer, allowing showrunner John Eisendrath to take over creative responsibilities.
