Griffin was born to an Afro-Haitian father Tommy Griffin and a white mother Gail Griffin in Oklahoma City. His dad starred for the Wildcats in both basketball and track at the center. The Griffin children, Blake (the younger) and Taylor (the older) were homeschooled by their mother from first grade until Taylor completed the tenth grade and Blake completed the eighth grade.
