Corlys Velaryon Die in TV Series “House Of The Dragon”
Despite the ambiguity surrounding Corlys Velaryon’s future in episode 8 of House of the Dragon, the Sea Snake’s saga is far from over.
Due to blood fever contracted from fighting in the Stepstones over six years, the Lord of the Tides is missing in action during the eighth episode of House of the Dragon. During this period, his wife Rhaenys has been co-ruling Driftmark with Baela Targaryen while speculation about the future of the Driftwood Throne has prompted petitions in King’s Landing. Since the Sea Snake is unlikely to die anytime soon, the squabbles over who would succeed Corlys as Driftwood’s sole occupant were ultimately pointless. Actually, in episode 8 of House of the Dragon, Corlys Velaryon will play a pivotal role in the Dance of the Dragons and outlast everyone who lays claim to Driftmark. The blood fever brought on by his wounds has not yet killed Corlys, but the Sea Snake will soon be back in charge as Lord of the Tides.
The Fate of Corlys Velaryon in HOTD
After Viserys Targaryen’s death in Season 8 of House of the Dragon, Corlys Velaryon will side with his wife and grandkids to back Rhaenyra Targaryen’s claim to the Iron Throne. Following Viserys’ death, Alicent, Otto, and Criston would take the throne and crown Aegon II Targaryen, making Corlys and House Velaryon crucial allies while coronating Rhaenyra on Dragonstone. Aside from her husband Daemon, Corlys, Lord of the Tides and commander of the Velaryon fleet, is Rhaenyra Targaryen’s most powerful ally.
All of Corlys’ grandchildren are engaged to each other, therefore he will be a staunch supporter of the blacks. However, his devotion will be questioned frequently when further tragedies befall his family. Corlys will blame the Queen for the death of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen during the civil war within the House of the Dragon, but the rift between the two families will be healed when Rhaenyra’s son Jacaerys appoints Corlys as the Hand of the Queen. Corlys, who has a much larger stake in the conflict and is, therefore, essential to Rhaenyra’s planning of an attack on King’s Landing, helps the Queen seize power and the Iron Throne. Addam and Alyn of Hull, the bastard sons of Laenor Velaryon, who are strongly hinted to be fathered by Corlys, are discovered in the second part of The Sea Snake. Corlys betrays his Queen when Rhaenyra casts doubt on the loyalty of the “dragon seeds,” yet he remains at risk thanks to the greens. The plot of House of the Dragon takes an unexpected turn when it is revealed that Corlys Velaryon poisoned King Aegon II Targaryen. However, he is spared from death by Rhaenyra and Daemon’s son, King Aegon III Targaryen, and the temporary Hand of the King, Cregan Stark. After the end of the civil war, the Sea Snake, a member of the House of the Dragon, would die in old age, ushering in the future in which Corlys will serve as a regent for young King Aegon the Broken.

After Corlys’s passing, who will take over Driftmark?
The Sea Snake advocated for Addam and Alyn to be recognized by Rhaenyra as legitimate Velaryons because so many of Corlys Velaryon‘s relatives had been killed during the Dance of the Dragons. Addam Velaryon, a dragon rider, was named heir to Driftmark after the deaths of Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey Velaryon. Alyn Velaryon inherited the throne after Addam was killed in a decisive battle that marked the end of the civil war within the House of the Dragon. When Corlys dies in House of the Dragon, Laenor’s bastard son Alyn becomes the new Lord of the Tides and heir to Driftmark; the marriage of Alyn to Daemon’s daughter Baela Targaryen further cements the family’s ties to one another.
About House Of The Dragon
American House of the Dragon is a fantasy drama series. It is the second show in the series produced by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO, and it serves as an independent precursor to Game of Thrones (2011-2019). Author Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire served as inspiration for both shows. The show is co-created by Condal and Miguel Sapochnik. The series, which is partially based on the novel Fire & Blood, is set roughly two centuries before the events of “Game of Thrones,” 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, a member of the eponymous royal house, and one hundred years after the Seven Kingdoms have been united by the Targaryen Conquest. The story depicts the events leading up to and including the “Dance of the Dragons” civil war between Targaryen nobles.
Filming on House of the Dragon is scheduled to begin in April 2021 in the United Kingdom after a straight-to-series order was placed in October 2019. Released on August 21, 2022, the first season of this show featured a total of ten installments. It only took five days after the premiere for the show to be picked up for a second season. Due to Sapochnik’s departure at the end of the first season, Condal was left to operate the show by himself in season two.
