David Byrne was born on May 14, 1952, as the first of two children to Emma and Tom in Dumbarton, Scotland. When Byrne was two years old, his family relocated to Canada and settled in Hamilton, Ontario. When Byrne was about eight, they moved to the United States and settled in Arbutus, Maryland. As a child, Byrne learned to play the guitar, violin, accordion, and harmonica.
