Police Investigates the Elyria Murder Case: 4 Found Dead At the Spot, Police Says
After 11:45 p.m., Elyria police discovered the bodies of four members of the same family in a residence on the 200 block of Kenny Brook Lane. Saturday night after receiving a 911 call from a man saying he killed his family and was going to kill himself as well.
When Elyria police came, they found the house locked and had no response from within, so they broke down the door and discovered four bodies. According to the authorities, they are all connected.
The deceased, according to police, are:
- Bernadette A. Steadman, 92
- James C. Steadman, 69
- Lisa B. Steadman, 60
- Matthew J. Steadman, 34
“This tragedy looks to be a murder-suicide with Mr James Steadman as the suspect,” the police added. According to the locals, this family has been a fixture in the area for quite some time. Their neighbours all say they’re a great bunch. Authorities speculate that Steadman, 69, murdered his 60-year-old wife, 34-year-old son, and 92-year-old mother.
Valerie Calkins claimed, “His son was autistic.” When his mother was elderly, he would walk with her, as Calkins, a neighbour, explained. She claimed he would stop by on his walks around the neighbourhood to admire her garden and flowerbeds.
The local celebrity Anthony Jackson predicted he would run into Steadman frequently while walking around the block. According to Jackson, “I saw him out and about. He used to stroll his wife over here back and forth. She had cancer.” Jackson said that the man had mentioned feeling “burned out” from caring for his ailing wife, sick mother, and troubled son.
It seems a new ramp was just put in at the residence, according to the neighbours. The investigation has concluded that this was an isolated incident and poses no additional danger to the neighbourhood. The Lorain County Medical Examiner’s Office and police investigators are looking into the tragedy.
