Jordan Addison transfers to USC: All-American WR gives Trojans game-changing playmaker for 2022 season
Jordan Addison, a former Pitt wide receiver, confirmed his commitment to the Trojans on Thursday. An All-American and Biletnikoff Award winner, 2021 All-American Addison picked the Trojans over significant offers from Texas and Alabama, and a chance to play for the Panthers again less than two weeks after entering the portal.
Coach Lincoln Riley’s first season at USC will benefit greatly from the arrival of No. 5 transfer Addison, according to 247Sports. A native of Frederick, Maryland, Addison caught 100 receptions for 1,593 yards and 17 touchdowns during a career sophomore season that resulted in Pitt’s first ACC championship. When Kenny Picket was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, Addison’s performance was so amazing that he even helped the Panthers quarterback get there (and, later, a first-round selection in the NFL Draft).
After putting together the best transfer class in the country, the Trojans were always expected to land Addison. Riley brought in Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Mario Williams, as well as Oregon, running back Travis Dye, Colorado wide receiver Brenden Rice, and Virginia offensive tackle Bobby Haskins. Even if he’s not the best transfer in recent memory, Addison has a strong case to be the best national transfer. In 2022, Addison and Williams will form one of college football’s most dynamic attacks.

A perfect fit
Williams attended Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C., while Addison attended Tuscarora High School in Baltimore. When they went to the transfer portal, they found several offers they liked and maintained in touch while Addison was going through the process of transferring.
As a result, the duo has been recruited to play for one of college football’s top offensive coordinators. In his five years as Oklahoma’s head coach, Riley produced two Heisman Trophy winners and three contenders. Riley’s work with the Sooners’ wide receivers has also benefited future NFL stars like CeeDee Lamb, who came out of the program and went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
A dynamic offense with Williams and Addison will be USC’s best in college football this season. Trojans should give Addison a chance to show off his skills even more than Pitt.

A huge blow to Pitt
In addition to Addison, the Panthers have been subjected to a significant amount of change during the summer. With the departure of offensive coordinator Mark Whipple to Nebraska, Boston College’s Frank Cignetti Jr. has taken over as the new quarterback coach, replacing Pickett, while wide receivers coach Brennan Marion, a rising star in the profession, moved to Texas to take over for Whipple.

During his two years at Pitt, Addison excelled, surpassing Larry Fitzgerald’s single-season receiving yardage record with more than 2,000 yards. However, this was not the offense that would lead Pitt to an ACC championship. Even if Addison may have helped Slovis and the Panthers’ adjustment, they now have to start from nothing.
No time off
For high-profile coaches, pressure to produce has never been greater but owing to the transfer portal, Riley has entirely altered his roster in one offseason.
It’s hard to overstate just how dynamic Caleb Williams, Mario Williams, and Addison have been from Day 1. During Oregon’s run to the Pac-12 Championship Game, Dye carried for nearly 1,300 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. In addition, the Trojans brought in 10 defensive transfers to help shore up the team’s shaky defense

.
Rebuilding has always taken three years: assessment, development, and competition. By making use of the transfer portal, Riley has instantly raised the stakes for his first game on campus, with hopes of competing for a berth in the College Football Playoff (CFP). Los Angeles will be the focus of attention when the season begins against Rice on September 3.
