Eternals 2 Release Date Status, Cast and Everything You Need to Know!
Fans may be wondering if there will be a sequel now that Eternals is accessible to view at home on Disney Plus. While the first film sets the stage for the sequel, it’s unclear whether we’ll get to see it.
Eternals, directed by Chloé Zhao, introduces a whole new superhero squad to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and while it has been praised for its diverse ensemble, it has gotten mixed reviews (especially for a Marvel movie).
Zhao is open to returning if Marvel confirms it. “I’d be back in a heartbeat working with the Marvel gang,” she told The Playlist.
Marvel producer Nate Moore, on the other hand, told The Toronto Sun: “It isn’t something that is required. We have ideas on where we could go, but no hard and fast rule says we must have three of these things, with this being the first.”
But, as we all know, never say never when it comes to Marvel. With that in mind, here’s all we know about an Eternals 2 sequel so far.
Eternals 2 release date: When can we expect Eternals 2?
We don’t have a confirmed release date for Eternals 2 because Marvel hasn’t confirmed it yet, but we can expect to wait at least two years. The MCU has a jam-packed calendar leading up to the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on July 28, 2023.
Furthermore, Marvel has several previously announced films, such as Fantastic Four and Blade, that are still awaiting release dates. Any Eternals sequel will most likely be released in 2024.
Since the MCU has grown, sequels are normally released three years after the initial film, thus the November 2024 release date set by Marvel is a suitable fit. For the time being, this is all supposition, and we’ll update you as soon as more information becomes available.
Eternals 2 cast: Who will be back for Eternals 2?
If the sequel is confirmed, we can expect the majority of the actors to return, but the first film had its share of losses. Deviants killed Salma Hayek’s Ajak (with the help of Ikaris), while the lead Deviant Kro (voiced by Bill Skarsgard) killed Don Lee’s Gilgamesh.

Richard Madden’s Ikaris, after realizing the mistake of his ways, soared into the sun at the movie’s climax (lol, sure), seemingly to his death. However, given their 7,000-year history, none of the deaths rule out flashbacks.
That’s all for fatalities, but Sersi changed Lia McHugh’s Sprite into a human, therefore ruling out a return. If Sprite does return, the role of McHugh may be replaced.
The remainder of the Eternals, including Gemma Chan’s Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo, Brian Tyree Henry’s Phaistos, Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari, Barry Keoghan’s Drug, and Angelina Jolie’s Thena, are also expected to return.
Kit Harington will almost certainly return as Dane Whitman, possibly as the Black Knight.
In terms of the credits scenes, the sequel will feature an added surge of star power in the shape of Harry Styles, who made his MCU debut in the mid-credits scene as Eros, aka Starfox, or Thanos’ brother.
He’ll be joined by Pip the Troll, who was voiced by Patton Oswalt in the first film and is expected to return.
Eternals 2 plot: What will Eternals 2 be about?
While the first film was heavily influenced by Jack Kirby’s comics, it mostly told its own story, making it difficult to predict what would happen in the sequel by looking at the comics. Fortunately, we can concentrate solely on the original film’s cliffhanger ending.
After rejecting their king (and creator) Arishem and preventing Tiamut from killing Earth, the Eternals split up and presume the situation is resolved for the time being. However, they are mistaken, as Arishem abducts Sersi, Kingo, and Phaistos from Earth.
Arnhem informs them that he intends to examine their memories to determine whether mankind is worthy of survival, similar to how he does in the comics, where he is a Celestial who determines whether any planet’s civilization is worthy of survival.

Makkari, Drug, and Thena, on board the Eternals’ ship, the Domo, are avoiding Arishem for some reason. They’re on their way to tell other Eternals what they’ve learned about their true nature.
They discuss how Sersi, Kingo, and Phaistos have “disappeared” in the mid-credits sequence, and they suspect Arishem has something to do with it. Eros appears on the Domo, promising to assist them in locating their pals.
While Eros and the Eternals may appear in subsequent MCU films, this feels more like a direct lead-in to Eternals 2 than another MCU production. They could be joined by the Black Knight since Dane goes to touch the Ebony Blade in the post-credits sequence.
Harington told Digital Spy that he doesn’t know what the future holds for him, but that he wouldn’t rule out returning as the Black Knight.
“I try to live in the present, especially with work,” he explained. “As far as I’m concerned, I’m Dane Whitman in this movie, and go see the movie and you might find out a bit more.”
“I wanted to be a part of the MCU and this franchise with the hopes of seeing a future where Dane is more than just a human, so I’m hoping that’s coming down the road.”
