Extracurricular Season 2 Release Date Status: Is Netflix Going to Renew This Series (Latest Update)?

One of the most popular K-drama series on Netflix in South Korea in 2020 was ‘Extracurricular,’ a teen K-drama about a group of high school students. The show’s unique narrative approach, as well as its dark and unpredictable chills, the presence of grey characters, and the power struggle between the morals, have wowed viewers.

Most fans were disappointed by the cliffhanger ending and are hoping the showrunners will approve a second season so they can get all their questions answered. If you’re curious about the whereabouts of Season 2 of Extracurricular, its cast members, and the show’s potential plotlines, look no further!

Extracurricular has received a great deal of attention and success, and a second season would be a huge hit on Netflix. Adrenaline rushing through our veins can’t be beaten!

Extracurricular Plotline

Extracurricular tells the story of four high school students—Oh Ji Soo, Bae Gyu Ri, Kwak Ki Tae, and Seo Min-Hee—who agree to run an illegal business to make money. Once Gyu Ri and Min-Hee discover Ji Soo’s criminal activities, they convince the model student to join them in their gang of criminals.

When it comes to popularity, Ki Tae is the most popular guy on campus who has a crush on Min Hee. These two run a security service for prostitutes, both to keep the women safe and to bring in new customers. However, as more people join in, they’ll have to deal with the unintended consequences of their actions that they didn’t anticipate.

The show isn’t afraid to tackle some of society’s most difficult issues, including the darker aspects of adolescence. Even though it is a high school youth drama, it is nothing like a typical K-drama that helps brighten our days.

Extracurricular Season 1: Ji Soo Exposed

After watching the show, the first question that our K-Drama experts ask themselves is whether or not Ji Soo made it to the end. The last episode had so much going on that some viewers had mixed feelings about the end, particularly the open ending. To begin, Mr. Lee finally defeats the Banana Club Karaoke bar staff, but he and the bar’s owner are assassinated on the bar’s rooftop. Detectives suspect that Ki Tae is behind the attack on Mr. Lee, so they bring him and his gang in for questioning about the location of the crime scene.

As soon as Jisoo hears the news of his death, he begins hallucinating about the people involved in the criminal investigation. For some reason, Ji Soo rejects Gyu Ri’s invitation to accompany her to Sydney. During his investigation, Haegyong discovers that Gyu Ri had kept the money she had taken from the bar owner in a club room at the school. Jo Jin Woo, their homeroom teacher, is interrogated by police after she reports the retrieved cash.

Meanwhile, Min-Hee confronts Ji Soo about his role in the recent events. Ji Soo recognizes that he has been acting as the ‘uncle’ to protect them, and he has no intention of changing his ways. As it turns out, Ji Soo had no idea that Seo Min Hee had been secretly recording their conversation and later forced him to delete it. Min-Hee accidentally falls down the stairs and dies at the scene in the heat of the moment. After taking the phone, Ji Soo walks to his house in a dramatic scene.

Extracurricular Season 1: Ending Explained

When Kwak Ki Tae learns that Ji Soo may have murdered his girlfriend Min-Hee, he loses control and stabs him with a pair of scissors. Ji Soo is found dead. A pot was slammed on his head by Gyu Ri at the right time, and the man was knocked unconscious.

Ji Soo, who has already lost a significant amount of blood, begins to lose consciousness as Gyu Ri and Ji Soo attempt to flee the building. As she enters the apartment, Haegyong spots Kwak Ki Tae, who is lying motionless on the floor. We see an empty stairwell right when we think she’s about to catch them! The series ends with someone pouring water into the habitat, which suggests that Ji Soo and Gyu Ri are still alive. Even if Gyu Ri was dead, at least he was still alive. It is possible that they were struggling as troubled teenagers in a harsh world.

Extracurricular Season 2: What to Expect?

For Ji Soo and Detective Lee to play cat and mouse in the second season of Extracurricular would be fascinating. While Gyu Ri and Ji Soo may be tempted to return to the criminal underworld because of the fire that exists within them, Ki Tae may be planning a much more elaborate revenge plan. Finally seeing if Detective Lee manages to apprehend Ji Soo and hold him accountable for his crimes is a welcome development.

‘Vincenzo’ was a huge hit last year, and almost everyone started speculating about a possible sequel because of the overwhelmingly positive response and the open ending. However, the show’s creators have stated that there will be no second season of the show. Extracurricular viewers will have to make do with what they have to work with if the creators stick with the same strategy.

Extracurricular Season 2 Release Date

Currently, there are no plans to renew Extracurricular for a second season. When Netflix announced in April 2019 that it would distribute a new Korean original series, the first season of the drama was announced as well. On April 29, 2020, Netflix made all ten episodes available to viewers around the world in a single, timed-release. The screen time for each episode is 60 minutes.

Netflix allows you to watch all of the episodes at any time for the time being.
