As inflation keeps going up, the deadline for hundreds of thousands of Americans to get much-needed help with their gas and travel costs is coming up quickly.
Eligible residents of Chicago, Illinois can apply for the $150 fund but must do so before the deadline.
This chance to get money is part of the Chicago Moves program, which Mayor Lori Lightfoot came up with and the Chicago City Council approved on April 27.
How to apply for July Gas Cards
To apply, you must live in Chicago, be at least 18 years old, and have a city sticker on your car with the right mailing address.
As well as those restrictions, the income of that applying must be at or below 100 percent of the area median income for Chicago. That comes out as $93,200 for a household of four.
There will be a lottery every month until September, always on the second week of the month. July 1 is the last day to enter the next lottery. The winners will get an email with the good news.
Overall, Chicago is expected to give out up to 50,000 prepaid gas cards worth a total of $150,000. In addition, the program will give out 100,000 prepaid transit cards worth $50 each.
A lottery will be held to give away the $12.5million in transit and gas cards. There are three ways to apply for the lottery: Online at Chicago.gov/ChicagoMoves, in-person at any Chicago Public Library location, or by mail by sending the completed application to ATTN: Dept. of Finance: Chicago Moves, 121 N. Lasalle St., Floor 7, Chicago, IL 60602.
Deadlines for the gas card lottery application will be May 3, June 3, July 3, August 3, and September 3.
