Mary’s plaid apron-like skirt and contrasting red top signal her differentiation from and deference to Winnie. Sarah’s confused, lustful femininity is reflected in her low-cut corset, which is constructed of muted pinks and reds. In addition to their elaborate costumes, each performer also sports a one-of-a-kind hair and makeup look that accentuates the personality traits conveyed by their ensemble. Winnie’s bunched, bright crimson bouffant and heart-shaped lipstick are the most recognisable of the three. Their outfits, make-up, and hair allow the camp sensibility to show through, while being impractical and inconsistent with the movie’s logic.

About Hocus Pocus 2

The sequel to the American supernatural comedy film Hocus Pocus will be released in 2022, with Anne Fletcher at the helm and a script by Jen D’Angelo. Starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Doug Jones once more, along with newcomers Sam Richardson, Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Tony Hale, and Hannah Waddingham, this is the sequel to the 1993 film Hocus Pocus.

Rhode Island stood in for Salem, Massachusetts, for filming dates between October 2021 and January 2022. On September 30th, 2022, it premiered on Disney+. Reviewers were divided on this one, applauding the cast’s performances and the film’s sense of humor but criticizing the narrative.

Winifred Sanderson, a young girl in 1653, is expelled from Salem by Reverend Traske. Winifred and her sisters Mary and Sarah run away to the adjacent forbidden forest rather than be taken from them. They meet Mother Witch, who on Winifred’s sixteenth birthday gives her a magic book but forbids the sisters from using the Magicae Maxima spell. The sisters were instructed by Mother Witch to kill other children in order to preserve their own ‘youth’

In 2022, over thirty years after the Sanderson sisters were brought back to life by the Black Flame Candle, two Salem teens called Becca and Izzy get ready to celebrate Halloween and Becca’s sixteenth birthday, but they decline an invitation to a party from their estranged friend Cassie Traske. When Becca and Izzy go to Gilbert, who owns a magic shop, he gives Becca a candle to use in their yearly ceremony. When Becca and Izzy lit the candle, they saw that it was another Black Flame Candle. The Sanderson sisters are brought back to life by the candle since it is a full moon and they are both virgins.

When the girls finally outsmart the sisters in a nearby Walgreens, they run away to the magic shop, where they learn that Gilbert gave them the candle on purpose to bring the sisters back to life. He had seen them on Halloween in 1993 and learned how to manufacture the candle from Book. In catching up with the girls, the sisters notice a campaign flyer for Mayor Traske, Cassie’s father and the direct descendent of Reverend Traske. Winifred decides she wants to kill Traske and get right with Salem, so she researches the Magicae Maxima spell. Since Traske’s blood is required for the spell’s completion, the sisters lock Izzy and Becca in the basement and send Gilbert to gather its components.

Meanwhile, the sisters make their way to the town’s Halloween carnival and beguile the locals into helping them find the mayor. Meanwhile, Gilbert unearths Billy Butcherson, who claims to have been alive but buried underground since 1993. Gilbert convinces Billy to help him cast the spell by promising to reveal the truth about his connection with Winifred, but he maintains that he is actually trying to beat the sisters.

Production of Hocus Pocus 2

It was announced in July 2014 that Tina Fey would be producing and starring in a supernatural-themed film about witches being developed by The Walt Disney Company. Deadline Hollywood, however, dispelled speculation that the movie was a Hocus Pocus sequel. During a Reddit AMA in November 2014, Bette Midler expressed her interest in reprising her role as Winifred Sanderson. She added that co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy were also keen to reprise their roles as Sarah and Mary Sanderson, but that Disney had not yet given the sequel the go-ahead, urging fans of the original film to lobby Disney to produce a sequel. In answer to a question about a sequel, Midler said, “after all these years and all the fan demand, I do believe I can stand and firmly say an unambiguous no,” in a Facebook Q&A in November 2015.

Doug Jones, who plays the lead character, revealed in June 2016 that Disney was thinking about making a sequel, and there have since been discussions behind the scenes about perhaps continuing the series. Sarah Jessica Parker was asked by Andy Cohen about a possible sequel in October 2016 while promoting her HBO program Divorce. As an answer, she gave us “That is fantastic! If anything, I believe we’ve made it quite clear how eager we are “Regardless, she insisted that supporters lobby Disney for a follow-up. Many ideas for a sequel are discussed in Aaron Wallace’s Hocus Pocus in Focus: The Thinking Fan’s Guide to Disney’s Halloween Classic, but the author acknowledges that the studio’s focus on “tentpole” films with guaranteed profits poses a major obstacle to the project.

After years of rumors and conjecture, in September 2017, Hocus Pocus writer Mick Garris said that he was working on a script for a sequel and that it may be created as a television film for Disney Channel, Freeform, or ABC. After initial rumours, it was confirmed that Freeform would be airing a remake of the film instead. The Royals writer Scarlett Lacey has been attached to write the script, and original film producer David Kirschner will serve as executive producer. Original film director Kenny Ortega is not expected to be involved. Midler stated the following month that she did not like the notion of a remake and that she would not be participating in it regardless of whether she was offered some kind of role or not, expressing worries about their ability to successfully recast her character as Winifred Sanderson.
