After a body was discovered in the Charles River in Newton, Massachusetts, late on Saturday, members of the Massachusetts State Police Department are investigating the incident.

According to David Procopio, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police, the corpse was found at Forte Park around 8:00 p.m. Investigators from the State Police are currently attempting to establish both the identification of the deceased person and the circumstances surrounding their passing.

David Procopio, a Massachusetts State Police spokesperson, said in a statement:
“Troopers from the State Police Troop H Detective Unit, the State Police Detective Unit for Middlesex County, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section also responded and at this time continue to investigate the identity of the body and the facts and circumstances of the death.”
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is currently in the custody of the deceased individual’s body.
