Jeanie Marie Buss was born on the 26th of September 1961, in Santa Monica, California to parents Joann and Jerry Buss. She grew up alongside three siblings and was raised by a younger sister Hanie and two older brothers Johnny and Jim.
Jamie felt emotionally abandoned when her parents divorced in 1972. Buss attended World Team Tennis when she was 14 years old, meeting her father, who owned the Los Angeles String.
She developed an interest at the age of 17, moved in with her father at Pickfair, and began giving tours. Jeanie began her business career at the age of 19 when she joined her father’s company as general manager of the Los Angeles Strings professional tennis team.
Moving on to her education, she attended Palisades Charter High School. Buss then graduated with honours and majored in business at the University of Southern California (USC).

Jeanie was a student at USC when she was hired as a general manager by the company owned by Jerry the second incarnation of the Strings.
The World TeamTennis folded in 1987 and was resurrected as TeamTennis later that year. After the String folded in 1993, Jeanie was able to bring professional roller hockey to Los Angeles as the CEO of the Los Angeles Blades in Roller Hockey International.
Following that, she was named “Executive of the Year” by the league. She even served as president of the “Great Western Forum” and then the Lakers’ home arena for four years. She was appointed as the NBA Board of Governors’ Alternate Governor in 1995.
