Matthew McClung was born on January 6, 1999, in Gate City, Virginia. He is Marcus and Lenoir’s son, and he has an older sister named Anna. Mac’s father was a former Virginia Tech football player who became a County Prosecutor.
After his birth, Mac’s mother, Lenoir, began working as a driving instructor, and his sister is a soccer player. Mac grew up in an athlete family, so he was always highly competitive and interested in sports.

Mac scored a season-high 38 points in Georgetown’s win over Little Rock at the end of 2018. He averaged 13 points per game as a freshman and led all Big East Conference freshmen in scoring. He missed several games during his sophomore season in 2020 due to a foot injury.

As a result, despite playing only 21 games as a sophomore, he averaged 15 points per game. Following that season, he signed with an NCAA-certified team and was declared for the 2020 NBA draught. However, it did not last long and was removed from the 2020 NBA Draft.
After leaving Georgetown, Mac transferred to the “Texas Tech Red Raiders” in May 2020. He made his Texas Tech debut in November of that year, scoring 20 points in a win over Northwestern State. As a junior, he averaged more than 15 points per game.
