West Springfield Man Arrested for Speeding on Route 20; Stolen Handgun and Narcotics Confiscated
A man was caught overspeeding on Route 20 in West Springfield, and police later found a stolen gun and drugs in his possession. On Tuesday, a West Springfield police officer made a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of a man from Springfield on Route 20.
Officers pulled down a vehicle for speeding on Route 20 near Rogers Avenue at around 2:00 p.m. The motorist, Steven Santiago, was from Springfield and was traveling 63 mph in a 40 mph zone. His license was suspended, leading to his arrest.
The search turned up a container of a white powdery substance, later identified as cocaine, and a loaded Vermont-stolen Ruger SR22.22 caliber semi-automatic weapon in the unsecured glovebox. During the search, a bottle of a white powdery substance was found, as per WWLP.com.
That was later determined to be cocaine, and a loaded semi-automatic Ruger SR22 with a.22 calibers that had been stolen from Vermont were discovered in the unlocked glovebox.
