Miesha Theresa Tate was born on August 18, 1986, in Tacoma, Washington, USA. Her parents are Michelle Tate and Rob Tate, and she has a sister named Felicia Martin. In her adolescence, she was a tomboy who frequently socialised with the boys among her residents on playgrounds.
She went to Parkland’s Franklin Pierce High School, where she became interested in sports and eventually chose amateur wrestling over basketball.
She wrestled for the boys’ team from her freshman year until graduation. She competed and won the girls’ state championship in her senior year of 2005. Meisha’s first amateur fight occurred in March 2006 against Muay Thai specialist Elizabeth Posener. Tate had a 5-1 amateur record before turning pro.
