For the New York stimulus payments, receipts for $270 have been mailed. The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (DTF) may have sent you a $270 check. The agency announced it has begun distributing $475 million in additional financial aid to 1.8 million eligible New Yorkers.
Acting DTF Commissioner Amanda Hillel stated they are delivering these relief checks to hardworking New Yorkers who have been feeling the pinch of inflation. The average payment per recipient is approximately $270, which will assist in addressing the rising costs associated with the pandemic and inflation.
People who received the Empire State Child Credit and the Earned Income Credit on their 2021 state tax returns will receive the payments automatically. To qualify, you must have filed your New York State income tax return (Form IT-201) by April 18, 2022, or have a valid extension.

DTF anticipates most payments to reach taxpayers soon. Some individuals may receive their payments later if the department processes their return. The agency was unable to provide a specific delivery schedule. After processing the returns, checks will be issued automatically.

To avoid delays in receiving their Additional NYS Child and Earned Income Tax Payment check, New Yorkers who have recently moved should update their address with DTF. To do so, they can establish an account on the department’s website and follow the on-screen prompts to update their address.

Since the last stimulus payment was issued in 2021, the federal government has not indicated that it intends to issue any additional checks. Instead of federal checks, individual states issued cheques of varying quantities in 2022 to offset the rising cost of inflation.
Additional child and earned income tax obligations in New York:
The 2022–2023 New York State budget provides eligible taxpayers with one-time cheques for two distinct payments:
- one based on the Empire State child credit, and
- one based on the earned income credit (or noncustodial parent earned income credit).
If you qualify for payment for one or both credits, you don’t need to do anything; the state will automatically calculate and send you one check that will include the total amount you’re entitled to.
