Early Life of Pete Davidson

Peter Michael Davidson, the son of Amy and Scott Matthew Davidson, entered the world on November 16, 1993, on Staten Island in the Big Apple. His father was one of the New York City firemen from Ladder 118 who gave their lives protecting others on September 11, 2001. Before the World Trade Center Marriott building collapsed, he was observed racing up the stairs. At St. Clare’s Roman Catholic Church in Great Kills, Staten Island, a Requiem Mass was offered for him. When Davidson’s mother died when he was seven, he was devastated. He told The New York Times that it was “overwhelming” and that he later acted out in school as a result of the trauma, at one point pulling his hair out till he was bald. In October 2016, he claimed on The Breakfast Club morning radio show that he struggled with suicidal thoughts when he was younger and that the music of Kid Cudi saved his life.

Davidson’s father was large of Jewish heritage, with some distant German, Irish, and Italian backgrounds. His mother’s family tree is primarily Irish with some German ties further back in time. He was brought up as a devout Catholic with a younger sister named Casey. Davidson started his high school career at St. Joseph by the Sea, then moved on to Tottenville before moving to Xaverian High School in Brooklyn. To coincide with the launch of the show’s 40th season on September 27, 2014, Davidson became a member of the SNL cast. As one of the youngest cast members ever, he made history by being the first to be born in the 1990s on SNL (he was 20 at the time). Davidson is the godfather of Ricky Velez’s son, Leo. Both he and Seattle Mariners pitcher Matthew Festa attended St. Joseph by the Sea High School, and he counts Festa among his closest pals. Davidson had over 40 tattoos by August of 2018; they covered his arms, legs, chest, hands, and neck. On his left arm, Davidson bears the fireman badge number of his late father, 8418. He mentioned removing some of them in a May 2021 interview.

On December 5, 2017, Davidson posted to his Instagram that he had a tattoo of Hillary Clinton on his leg, calling her his “hero,” a “badass,” and “one of the strongest individuals in the universe.” Davidson voted for Clinton in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
