Rick Scott Refuses To Criticize Trump And MTG

Rick Scott Refuses To Criticize Trump And MTG: On Sunday, during a tense interview with CBS’s Margaret Brennan, Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) remained silent in the face of calls for him to condemn the violent words of former President Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).

Brennan asked Scott on “Face the Nation,” who is chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, about Trump’s racially charged comments about Elaine Chao, the wife of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and the former president’s Transportation secretary, when he called her “Coco Chow” and “China loving.”

Brennan also questioned Scott on whether or not Greene’s comments at Saturday’s Trump rally, in which she said Democrats were murdering Republicans, constituted a threat.

Before criticizing Vice President Harris’s remarks and adding that Trump was talking about “unbelievable spending that’s producing inflation harming the poorest households,” Scott answered by saying, “what we need to do is we got to bring everybody together.”

Scott defended Trump, but Brennan pointed out that the president also suggested that McConnell has a “death wish” for voting for a funding plan for the government that was backed by the Senate’s Democratic majority.

“But the statement I quoted to you said McConnell ‘had a death desire.'” He made some racially insensitive remarks against Elaine Chao. They’ve also begun “the murders” already. That’s hardly a disagreement about policy, senator. That’s the terminology I’m referring to. Wouldn’t that be risky? Inquired Brennan.

To this, Scott replied, “I think we all have to figure out how do we start bringing people together and have a common goal to give every American the opportunity to get a great job, their kids to have an education [so] they believe they can be anything, and make sure everybody lives in a safe community.”

In recent weeks, Trump has repeatedly criticized the top Senate Republican, saying he should no longer serve as GOP leader and attacking Chao, referencing her family’s American business that also has dealings in China. The relationship between McConnell and Trump has been tense ever since the former president was in the White House.

On Friday, when McConnell voted for a package to fund the government through mid-December, Trump remarked of the senator, “He has a DEATH WISH.”

Must quickly seek assistance and advice from his China-loving wife, Coco Chow!” he said, using a word that is commonly regarded as a racial insult.

When asked if he thinks that kind of rhetoric helps bring people together, Scott of CBS News refuses to answer.

He seeks reasons to give people nicknames, and he’s good at it. Surely Trump has a nickname for me, all right?” he replied, referring to Chao. That being said, feel free to inquire as to the meaning of his several monikers. … I can do what I can to bring people together, and I intend to do just that.

Greene flew to Michigan the day following Trump’s tweet to speak at a rally for Trump’s backed candidates.

As I’ve said before, “I’m not going to sugarcoat anything for any of you. Greene said that the slaughter of Republicans by Democrats had already begun.

Even after Brennan assured Scott that Greene’s statements were false, he continued to criticize Harris for something she said on Friday at a Democratic National Committee event in response to a question about the administration’s stance on climate change, even though Scott had not heard Greene’s comments.

“It is our lowest-income neighborhoods and our communities of color that are most hit by these terrible circumstances and impacted by challenges that are not their own creating,” Harris said during the event. “Therefore, we need to solve this in a way that distributes resources fairly.”

Scott made the connection between Harris’s remark and FEMA’s reaction to Hurricane Ian in his state.

“But it’s also not helpful what the vice president says,” Scott said on CBS, referring to the vice president’s belief that FEMA would treat individuals differently based on race.
