Several Road Closures in Oregon as a Result of the Winter Storm
Several Road Closures: This evening, many people in Oregon experienced precipitation, primarily in the form of freezing rain, as temperatures dropped significantly. The National Weather Service has issued a storm warning that will be in effect until Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. At elevations of 2,000 feet or less, there may be an additional one-tenth to three-tenths of an inch of ice, while those at higher elevations may see slightly less.
Several Road Closures in Oregon Due to Winter Storm
Officials from the state have issued a warning about the possibility of downed trees, as well as transport difficulties and potential power outages. ODOT strongly recommends that motorists and pedestrians stay off the roads.
Interstate 84 between exits 17 and 64 will remain closed until road conditions improve. Hood River is expected to receive up to one inch of snow and three-quarters of an inch of ice, as well as wind gusts of up to 75 miles per hour. Hood River will be under a snowstorm warning until 10:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Furthermore, between Evergreen Boulevard (mile marker 19) and the Hood River bridge (mile marker 65), which is close to White Salmon, State Route 14 is restricted to freight traffic.
TriMet has also temporarily halted service on all MAX lines beginning early Friday morning. According to a TriMet press release, numerous trains were becoming stalled. The bus service has been reduced to “frequent service only,” and the buses can only travel at 25 miles per hour due to the heavy-duty chains used. Power Outages
Thousands of Oregonians awoke this morning without power, including over 7,000 in Tigard, Troutdale, and some neighborhoods in Southeast Portland. There were an additional 5,200 people without power, the majority of whom lived in Astoria and Lincoln City. Despite the severity of the storm, those figures have remained relatively low to this point.
