The first trailer for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl in six months was released today by developer G.S.C. Game World. It focuses on gameplay with a sprinkling of story elements.
The story-driven shooter takes place in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, a dystopian wasteland overrun by terrifying mutated beasts. Players are given agency over the game’s non-linear narrative as they fight their way to the zone’s center.
Where Does Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl Stand Currently?
After more than a decade in the making, Ukrainian studio GSC Game World finally looks ready to release their highly anticipated survival horror, first-person shooter. Since Call Of Pripyat in 2009, fans of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series have been eagerly awaiting the return to the mutated and deadly Chornobyl Exclusion Zone that this new game promises.

Stalker 2 Release Date: Heart of Chornobyl
When can we anticipate Stalker 2’s release? The anticipated release date for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is December 2023. According to the Stalker 2 listing on Steam, this is the expected release date. This release window should be treated with caution, however, until a concrete release date is provided. I wouldn’t be surprised if we heard soon that Stalker 2’s release date has been pushed back again, this time to 2024.
The original release date for Stalker 2 was April 28 of 2022, but due to production issues, the release date has been pushed back to December 7 of that year. Since then, the War in Ukraine has displaced Kyiv-based developers to Prague (more on this below), pushing back the release date to an anticipated December 2023.

New Stalker 2 Hardware
The PC version of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl can be purchased from Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, Xbox Store, and GOG, while the Xbox Series X|S version can be purchased from the Microsoft Store, Xbox Store, and GOG.
PlayStation fans, take heart: Stalker 2 is only an Xbox One exclusive for the next three months, so a PS5 release is still possible after all. According to GSC Game World’s PR manager Zakhar Bocharov, the game is incompatible with older consoles. This effectively kills any hopes of seeing Stalker 2 on consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One.
Game Pass for Stalker 2
Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl on release day for no additional cost. Or at least not in the form of direct payment to the game’s creators.
