She was driving a gunshot victim to the hospital, according to deputies, when she crashed and killed her passenger early Monday morning in Stockton. An automobile reportedly crashed about 40 feet down an embankment at the Country Club Boulevard on-ramp to southbound Interstate 5 at around 4:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

However, at about the same time, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office received a phone from a lady who said she was attempting to transport a friend to the hospital after he was shot.

Officers claim the injured passenger was taken to the hospital but later died there from her wounds. There has been no announcement of her identity. The vehicle’s driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. CHP said she appeared unharmed in the collision. The deputy force has determined that the gunshot occurred close to the intersection of Bristol Avenue and Plymouth Road. At this stage of the investigation, no suspect details have been made public.
