Veterans In Oregon Now Have Access To Free Dental Insurance
Free Dental Insurance: Free dental insurance is now available. The state of Oregon will launch a new programme this month to provide dental insurance to veterans. State officials claim they have the resources to care for ten times the number of veterans currently enrolled in the programme. They are requesting that veterans contact the Veterans Service Office in their respective counties or tribal governments in order to apply.

This programme, known as the Oregon Veteran Dental Program, provides the same basic dental care to participants as the Oregon Health Plan does to those who receive Medicaid from the state.
The state’s Veteran Dental Plan will cover a variety of dental procedures at no cost to the veteran, including routine checkups and cleanings, fillings, extractions, dentures, and emergency care. However, it excludes coverage for more involved procedures such as bridges.
“If you don’t feel good about your teeth, you don’t smile, and you don’t feel confident, and that has downstream effects,” says Kelly Fitzpatrick, director of the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs. “Veterans who may require assistance with their oral care but do not receive it may feel uneasy walking into a job interview or doing other things that we all take for granted.”
The target audience for this programme is veterans with incomes too high to qualify for full Medicaid benefits but who are still unable to pay the out-of-pocket expenses associated with dental care.
Veterans must live in Oregon and have an income equal to or less than 400% of the federal poverty level to be eligible for this programme. In contrast, the eligibility threshold for single adults is only 138% of the federal poverty level.
A veteran may be eligible for the new plan even if their annual income exceeds $54,000 for an individual or $111,000 for a veteran with a family of four. According to the Oregon Health Authority, applications are now being accepted, and there will be no waitlist for approval.

During the 2022 session of the state legislature, the initiative received an initial funding of one million dollars from lottery funds. According to OHA estimates, that is enough to cover approximately 2,500 veterans. Since the application process began in November, slightly more than 200 people have submitted their information to the state in order to participate in the programme.
It is estimated that only about 15% of veterans in the United States are eligible for Veterans Administration dental care. Officials in charge of Oregon’s health-care system are optimistic that the new state programme will benefit a large number of veterans.
