In 2008, Rufus gave his first major concert, accompanying British musicians Brian May (lead guitarist of Queen) and Kerry Ellis (British actor and singer); in attendance were Charles, Prince of Wales, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
Following his time on the road with We Will Rock You, Rufus played with Spike Edney’s band, Spike’s All-Stars. Some of the songs on Kerry Ellis’s first studio album, “Anthems,” released on September 13, 2010, featured him on drums.
Rufus performed as the lead drummer for some of Queen’s megahits, including “A Kind of Magic” and “Tie Your Mother Down,” and he gained fame for his ‘drum wars’ with his father Roger during the 2011 ‘Queen + Adam Lambert tour.
After two years on the road, in May of 2015, Rufus replaced Emily Dolan Davies, who had left The Darkness to pursue a solo career, as the band’s new drummer.

In 2000, brothers Justin and Dan Hawkins formed a band called Empire; the band changed its name and signed with Atlantic Records in 2003 when it became widely known simply as The Darkness.
After its initial release on July 7, 2003, their debut album, titled “Permission to Land,” spent four consecutive weeks at the top of the UK album charts and has since sold over 1.5 million copies there alone. Among their many accolades in 2004, the band took home two Kerrang! Awards and three Brit Awards for Best Album, Best Rock Group, and Best Group.
The first single, “One Way Ticket,” was released on November 14, 2004; the album, “One Way Ticket to Hell… and Back,” followed two weeks later.
They were terminated by their record company after it was revealed that Justin Hawkins had departed the band and joined a recovery program in August 2006.
They got back together in March of that year, and their new single “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us” came out in February of that year; their third album, “Hot Cakes,” was published on August 20 of that year. Its fourth album, “Last of Our Kind,” was released on June 2, 2015, and its drummer, Ed Graham, left the band in 2014. On 21 April, The Darkness announced that Emily Dolan Davies had also left the band and been replaced by Rufus.
Their fifth studio album, “Pinewood Smile,” was published on October 6, 2017; their first live album, “Live at Hammersmith,” was released on June 15, 2018.
On 4 October 2019, The Darkness published their sixth album “Easter is Cancelled” on Cooking Vinyl, and most recently, on 19 November 2021, their seventh album was released, named “Motorhead”.

In 2003, a documentary film titled “Pavarotti & Friends for Irak” included Rufus.
He made appearances in the 2013 specials “iHeartRadio Music Festival: Night One” and “iHeartRadio Music Festival: Night Two,” the 2014 episode “Live Results Show 8” of the British singing competition “The X Factor,” and the 2014 episode “Die, Helene Fischer Show,” in which he also performed.
Rufus appeared on the TV show “Pointless Celebrities” in 2017 and in the short music video “Queen & Adam Lambert Rock Big Ben Live” (2015).
